
World Ice Skating Day – December 14, 2025 at Centennial Arena
Join us for a full day of skating, performances, and club events for all levels. Below you’ll find details for both our CanSkate Fun Skate and our StarSkate Academy Events.
World Ice Skating Day – Event Details
This is a full club event with activities for Pre-CanSkate through Gold level skaters. All events are included in your regular registration. A detailed schedule will be emailed to all registered skaters after registration closes.
CanSkate Event – Fun Skate
Pre-CanSkate / CanSkate / Teen CanSkate / Junior Academy
This event gives skaters a relaxed, positive way to show what they’ve been learning. Skaters complete simple skill circuits and are assessed to Gold, Silver, or Bronze using Skate Canada standards. Every skater receives a certificate.
There is no fee to participate.
Registration: November 24 to December 1
Location: Centennial Arena
Skater Time: Skaters attend only during their assigned event time.
Tentative Schedule
12:00–12:45 – Bring a Friend Open Skate
• One guest per registered skater
• Helmets required for guests
12:45–1:15 – Figure Skating Showcase
• Synchro teams, solo skaters, and ice dance performances
1:30–3:30 – CanSkate Fun Skate
3:30–6:00 – StarSkate Academy Events
Important Notes
• No regular club sessions on this day
• Event is included in your registration at no extra cost
• Only skaters registered by December 2 may participate
• Skaters will be grouped by age, skill, and completed badges

StarSkate Academy Events
Teen Bronze / Bronze / Silver / Gold / Synchro
We welcome all Academy skaters to join our Creative Improv and Team Element Events. These sessions give skaters a chance to perform, try new skills, and support teammates in a fun, encouraging environment.

CREATIVE IMPROV EVENTS
Overview
Skaters perform a short improv program with limited preparation. Music is assigned at the start of warm-up. No coaching is permitted.

How It Works
• Each group receives a different piece of music
• Music is played three times on warm-up
• Skaters are then sequestered
• Skaters perform individually
• Judging considers creativity, interpretation, movement quality, and performance
TEAM ELEMENT EVENTS
Overview
Teams perform a sequence of assigned elements. Each skater completes one element, and combined results determine the team score.
Team Guidelines
• Teams of 2–4 skaters
• One element per skater (maximum two)
• One attempt per element
• Spins judged on quality only
Team Formation
• Skaters may create their own teams
• Coaches may help build balanced teams
• Every skater must register online
• One team member emails the list to: HalifaxSkatingClub@gmail.com
• Unassigned skaters will be placed on a team
