March at the Rink | Important Dates, Events & Session Reminders

March is a full month for our club, with competitions, March Break skating, and the wrap-up of our winter sessions. Here’s everything in one place to help you stay organized.

πŸ… Upcoming Competition Events

As we head into the final competitions of the season, we’re excited to watch our skaters represent the club and showcase the work they’ve put in all year.

Provincials | Feb 27 to March 1 (Amherst)

Our STAR 4+ skaters and coaching teams will be away representing the club at Provincials. Medals are awarded to the top three finishers in each event.  This is also exciting step in the competitive pathway, with skaters at the STAR 5 and Competitive levels working toward qualification for Atlantics later this month in Paradise, Newfoundland. The top six skaters in each free skate category at STAR 5 and above will earn a spot at Atlantics. We’ll be sharing highlights and results on our social media after the competition. Stay tuned and join us in cheering everyone on!

STAR 1–3 Event | March 21 (Pictou County)

We’ll also have skaters travelling to the Mariposa East Skating Club STAR 1–3 event later in March. For some, this will be their very first competition. For others, it may be their first time performing a solo in front of officials. Every skater will have the chance to showcase the skills and confidence they’ve built all season.

At this level, skaters are evaluated against national standards and receive detailed report cards along with fancy ribbons reflecting their final results. It’s a fun, supportive environment and an important milestone in their skating journey. We’re so excited for all of you to enjoy the day and celebrate your progress.

Atlantics | March 27 to 29 (Paradise, NL)

Skaters who qualify at Provincials will move on to compete at Atlantics in Newfoundland. This is a major accomplishment and a highlight of the season for many athletes. It’s often the first opportunity to represent both the club and the province at a larger championship event, and an important step along the national pathway. Our whole club is incredibly proud of everyone working toward this goal.

Best of luck to all of our athletes. We’re so proud of the hard work, commitment, and passion that brought you here. πŸ’™β›ΈοΈ

πŸ“£ Competition Wrap-Ups

Please keep an eye on our social media pages for updates on who is competing at each event, plus our competition wrap-ups after the weekend.. To make sure your skater is included in the wrap-up post, families are asked to email results and photos (including any behind-the-scenes moments) to  'HalifaxSCPictures@gmail.com'  by 8:00 AM on Monday following the competition.

Ice Show 2026

April 12, 2026
Centennial

Our Ice Show is one of the best days of the year because it’s when Halifax Skating Club (HSC) and Bedford Skating Club (BSC) come together to celebrate skating, community, and everything that makes us unique.. Same love of the sport, one shared show, and a true season finale.

This is the moment skaters remember. The music starts, the lights come up, and they step onto the ice feeling proud, brave, and part of something big. Whether it’s their first time performing or they’ve done it for years, the Ice Show is where confidence grows and our whole community gets to cheer them on. It’s not about being perfect, it’s about showing up, having fun, and sharing the joy of skating together.

We’d love to have you involved in whatever way fits:

Skaters: Be part of the show. From Pre-CanSkate through our graduating and adult skaters, everyone is invited!.

Volunteers: Help us keep the day running smoothly and fun (costumes, check-in, dressing rooms, music support, ice-side help, and more).

Sponsors: Support the show and help offset costs so we can keep it affordable for families.

Spectators: Come cheer! Bring family and friends. There’s lots of space, and it’s the best way to celebrate all the hard work from the season.

Full banquet details (tickets, timing, and event info) will be shared soon.

Greenfoot

*warm up week June 29-July 3rd
Select levels only

β˜€οΈ Summer Skating
Save the Dates

Summer is one of the most important training periods for figure skaters. With consistent ice time and longer days, skaters can build skills faster, improve conditioning, and create strong habits that carry into the fall and competitive season. Our summer sessions are designed with a camp-style atmosphere, structured on-ice and off-ice classes, and the flexibility to cover more development topics than we’re able to during in-season programs.

To keep things fun and motivating, we also run theme weeks, dress-up days, and skating challenges throughout the summer, giving skaters something to look forward to while staying focused on training. Whether your goal is to move up a level, build confidence, or stay sharp over the break, summer is where the progress really happens. We’d love to have you on the ice with us.

Warm-Up Week

June 29 to July 3
For STAR 4+ skaters
(No skating Wed, July 1)

This week is designed to help skaters ease back into consistent training and set the tone for a strong summer. Sessions will include a mix of group training and open free-skate time so skaters can work on guided focus areas and individual goals.

(No skating Mon, August 3)
Fridays will be a slightly shorter training day.

Tentative daily time blocks (subject to final ice times):

Junior Academy & STAR 1–2: 8:00 AM to 12:00 PM

STAR 3–5:
9:00 AM to 3:00 PM

These times are for planning purposes only. Final schedules will be confirmed once rink times are finalized.

• A positive, supportive training environment
